Paper Money : Postcards : Collectibles
Dorlan B. Dorman was born near Quebec to Ezra and Chloe Dorman, and moved with his parents to Galena, Illinois in 1840. The family moved to Saint Anthony in 1854. Dorman established one of the first banks in that city. In 1862, he took money on deposit from merchants and gave them scrip, which they could issue for change on purchases. These notes would be charged against the corresponding deposits on redemption. Among the merchants that participated were drug store owner W. F. Cahill, John Keifer, A. Blakeman, J. Dunham, and J. Reed.
