Non-Star Replacement Notes

Replacement Notes are currency that is specifically printed to replace defective notes discovered in the printed process. On national bank notes, it was always the practice that misprinted notes be replaced with notes bearing the exact same serial numbers, in order to maintain the integrity of numbering sequences. On other types of U.S. currency, since 1910 the Bureau of Engraving and Printed printed replacement notes with a star at either the beginning or end of the serial numbers to designate its status.
