Paper Money : Postcards : Collectibles
Samuel Y. Hyde was a merchant in Fillmore in the early 1860s. By 1866, he became a partner with H. E. Broughton of Troy (also an issuer of scrip) and operated a country store under the name of Hyde, Broughton & Co. in Fillmore. At the same time, he had a mill in the town of Troy. He moved to Saint Charles in Winona County, and then in 1874 he moved across the river to La Crosse, Wisconsin, and expanded his business. He established S. Y. Hyde Elevator Company, and became a partner in Hodges & Hyde, dealers in grain and produce, and by 1888 he was a director of Batavian Bank, Edison Light and Power, and National Elevator Company.
The typeset note printed for S. Y. Hyde was similar to one printed for Charles Lamb of Frankford.
