Josiah C. Pierce, Thor K. Simmons and Albert W. Pratt started the banking firm of Pierce, Simmons & Co. on October 1, 1868 with a capital of $50,000. They conducted a general banking business in Red Wing under this name until 1891, when the bank was reorganized upon the death of Mr. Simmons.
