TTaylors Falls was named for Jesse Taylor, who arrived in 1838, and Joshua Taylor, who purchased the claim of the former in 1846. It was platted in 1850 and incorporated as a town on July 15, 1858. In 1863, the president of the town government was William H. C. Folsom, a merchant and town activist, and the recorder was businessman Oscar Roos.

Two varieties are known of the 25 cent notes. The typesetter incorrectly used a gothic “C” instead of a “T” in the town name on one of the notes. Other minor differences suggest that more than one 25 cent note was laid up on the press for printing.
